Rosario Robert Zappia, born June 25, 1939, to Mary and Dominick Zappia in Yonkers, New York, passed away on Sunday, November 22, in his home surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gloria, and his three daughters Angelina, Corina, and Gabriella. Rosario is also survived by his brother, Donald, and sister Dolores.
A graduate of Iona College and George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences, and a fellow of Infectious Diseases at both Brown University and University of Miami, Rosario also served his country in Vietnam as a medical doctor and Captain in the U.S. Army. He later married Gloria on June 23, 1973 in New York and they started a family and a small medical practice there. The family then moved to Orange, Texas, where he attended to the local community as a doctor of internal medicine and infectious diseases at both his private practice and Orange Memorial/Baptist Hospital for over 30 years.
His patients and everyone that knew him will forever remember Rosario for his love of family, his warmth and sense of humor, his fantastic Yonkers accent, his passion for music, and his unending kindness and care for others.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 11 am at Holy Rosary Church, 630 7th Avenue North in Edmonds, Washington.
Memorial donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Wounded Warrior Project, or Swedish Medical Center Cancer Institute.
