Nederland settles for third

NEW CANEY — Kevin Howard had 14 points and 11 rebounds, but it was not enough as The Woodlands Highlanders defeated the Nederland Bulldogs 59-54.
The loss knocked the Bulldogs out of contention to play for the New Caney tournament championship. Jase Miguez finished with 15 points while Darrell Jones added 16 points.
The Bulldogs followed up the loss to The Woodlands with a 51-46 win over Magnolia West in the New Caney tournament third-place game.
Adrian Nelson led the Bulldogs with 12 points while Howard added 10 points and seven rebounds and Jones finished with 10 points. Colton English pulled down 10 boards.
Nederland (4-2) is at home Monday for a 6 p.m. game against Little Cypress-Mauriceville.

GIRLS
Lady Bulldogs Classic
NEDERLAND — The Lumberton Lady Raiders won the Nederland Lady Bulldogs Classic Saturday with a 66-48 victory over Dayton.
Nederland lost 42-23 earlier in the day to Evadale.
Goose Creek Memorial won third place with a 48-38 victory over Bridge City while Orangefield was the consolation championship after defeating Evadale, 35-28.
Dayton defeated Bridge City, 47-25, to reach the championship while Lumberton took down Goose Creek, 71-64.
Orangefield also beat Vidor 32-31 on Saturday.

PA Memorial 57, Oakridge 40
HOUSTON — The Port Arthur Memorial Lady Titans shot 50 percent in the semi-finals at the Aldine ISD tournament at the Campbell Center on Saturday morning to defeat Oakridge.
The Lady Titans reached the tournament’s championship with a 57-40 victory.
Jakeira Ford led Memorial with 18 points and five rebounds while both Victoria Brown and Channel Babineaux each had 11 points. Babineaux added five steals.

Westbury Christian 48, PA Memorial 39
HOUSTON — The championship of the Aldine ISD Tournament was unkind to the Lady Titans.
The Lady Titans got 20 points and eight rebounds from UTEP signee Ford and seven points from Autumn Jones.
Babineaux added five points in the loss while Brown finished with five rebounds and five assists.
The Lady Titans are at Beaumont Central at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The freshmen start at 11 a.m.
