Gene Wesley Groff, 83, of Port Neches, Texas passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 at his residence. Gene was born March 21, 1932 to the late William and Virginia Wesley Groff in Wabasso, Florida and lived in Port Neches all of his life. He married the love of his life, Nelda Reeve on July 17, 1952. He retired from Texaco Chemical as a Head Operator with 44 years of service and was a carpenter by trade. Gene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Port Neches and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1955.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 20, 2015 at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland at 2:00p.m with Rev. Dr. David Mahfouz officiant. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial in Port Neches. A gathering of the family and friends will be from 5:00p.m to 8:00p.m on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nelda Groff of Port Neches; daughters, Debbie Hinojosa, and Donna Bonnette; grandsons, Brandon Ware, Andrew Ward, Justin Ward, and Blake Bonnette; granddaughter, Blair Bonnette; great grandson, Ethan Ware, and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Malcom, Bill and Wayne Gary Groff and his sisters, Lorraine Watland and Helen Whitted.
