Calvin Henry Beckmann

Calvin Henry Beckmann, 87, of Stonewall, TX, died October 28, 2015. Visitation was held at Schaetter’s Funeral Home on November 1st and funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on November 2nd at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stonewall. The reverend Percy Smerek officiated at both locations.
Mr. Beckmann was born on January 22, 1928 to Willie and Emma (nee Schaefer) Beckmann in Stonewall. He attended school at the one-room schoolhouse on the Lower South Grape Creek until his senior year when he graduated from Fredericksburg High School.
He married Waldene Cleo Hahne on December 28, 1951 after graduating as part of the Class of ’50 from the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (now Texas A&M University). He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and received a commission in the United Sates Air Force as a member of the Corps of Cadets.
Prior to receiving his first Air Force duty assignment, he worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the construction of the Grapevine Dam. After completing his service in the Air Force, he went to work for the Gulf Oil Corporation as a supervising engineer of construction at the refineries in Rotterdam (The Netherlands), Milford Haven (Wales), Bilbao (Spain), and Port Arthur, TX.  While in Wales he had the honor of meeting Queen Elizabeth II at the opening of the Milford Haven Refinery. He retired in 1983 after more than 30 years of service.
He was an active member of the Lions Club in Nederland and Fredericksburg, held numerous offices, and represented both districts at several state, national, and international conventions.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, two sisters, three children, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, and one great grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Stonewall VFD, the Fredericksburg Lions Club, or any desired charity.
