Former Nederland basketball standout Colton Weisbrod announced Thursday he will sign a letter of intent to play next season at Lamar University next week.

In a statement posted on Twitter, the current Lamar State College-Port Arthur sophomore said he’s thankful to have the opportunity to play for Tic Price at LU.

“Sure many of you know that I made the decision to come home after last year at New Orleans so that I could be there for my little boy and family,” Weisbrod said in the statement. “With that being said, it’s more than a relief to officially say I’ve decided to sign with Lamar next week.”

Weisbrod, a 6-foot-5 guard, was named 4A player of the year as a senior and two-time district most valuable player at Nederland. He was the seventh-leading scorer at UNO last season (7.0 points and 3.1 rebounds per game), appearing in 23 games and making 12 starts.

Weisbrod had 14 points, four rebounds and two steals last Saturday in LSC-PA’s 87-74 loss to Pensacola (Florida) State College. LSC-PA hosts Lone Star College-Cy Fair at 4 p.m. this Saturday.
