Two local 5A ballclubs and one from 2A will begin possible journeys to Garland and the state volleyball tournaments Tuesday evening.
Nederland (25-12), the District 22-5A runner-up, has a date with 21-5A third place Porter (18-17) in the bottom game of the top half of the Region 3 playoffs. That game will begin at 6 p.m. at Anahuac High School, with the winner to face Santa Fe or Angleton in the second round.
Just above that pairing, Port Neches-Groves (15-11) goes into the playoffs as the third seed from 22-5A and will face 21-5A runner-up Kingwood Park (22-5) at Goose Creek Memorial in Baytown. That game is set for 6 p.m. as well, and the winner will face either George Ranch or Fort Bend Bush.
Both Nederland and PN-G would have to win twice for a possible regional quarterfinal duel. The regional finals will be held at Don Coleman Coliseum in the Spring Branch Independent School District in Houston.
Bob Hope has become the darling of the 2A playoffs, making volleyball’s “big dance” in its second year of University Interscholastic League membership and sixth year of existence under first-year coach Holly Marshall. The Lady Eagles (12-18-1) must take on 23-2A champion Colmesneil (31-9) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Spurger, with the winner taking on Centerville or Kerens.
Colmesneil defeated Groveton on Saturday in a one-game playoff for the 23-2A title.
Should Bob Hope make its regional finals, those will be held at Lobo Coliseum in Longview.
The UIL state finals are scheduled for Nov. 18-21 at Curtis Culwell Center, in the Garland ISD.
