Plane crash lands in Lake Steinhagen, survivors swim to safety

JASPER COUNTY — A pilot and three passengers of a single engine place are safe after crash landing into Lake Steinhagen early Tuesday morning.
The Texas Department of Public Safety was notified about the crash near Dam B in Martin Dies State Park at about 3 a.m. Oct. 6. The park is about eight miles west of Jasper.
The pilot of the single engine Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft was in route to Louisiana and had run out of fuel, according to a press release from the DPS.
The pilot, Tristan Dorain, 27, of California and his three passengers Benjamin Griffin, 30, of Nevada, William Smallwood, 33, of Louisiana and Erica Gore, 20, of Alabama all survived the crash. Dorain was transported to Jasper Memorial hospital, but has since been released. None of the passengers sustained any injuries.
