George Mercer Treibel

George Mercer Treibel, 93 died August 12, 2015 at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Groves.
A native of Port Arthur, he was born November 11, 1921, to John and Ethel Treibel. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Port Arthur. His education was attending public schools in Port Arthur and graduating from the old Port Arthur College with a major in business.
He retired from Gulf Oil Corporation Refinery in Port Arthur as a senior supervisor in Human Resources after completing forty-three years of service in 1983.
As a veteran of World War II, he had duty in both the Atlantic and Pacific operating theaters as a U.S. Navy radioman on the USS Nelson. Enlisting in the Navy Reserve Program, he retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve Program in 1977 as a Chief Petty Officer completing thirty-eight years of naval service.
He was a past commander of the Rudolph Lambert Post, of the American Legion and also served as the president of the 40&8 organization. Military organizations be belonged to were the National Chief Petty Officers organization, the Fleet Reserve Association, the Retired Enlisted Association, the Tin Can Sailors Association and he was currently serving as the membership chairman of the USS Nelson Shipmates Association.
He will be greatly missed by his sons, George Treibel, Jr. and his wife Sue Saloom of Pearland, TX and Larry Treibel and his wife Paulette of Port Arthur, his five grandchildren and his eight great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Doris Benfield, his parents and one grandson.
Visitation for friends will be held at Grammier- Oberle Funeral Home on Friday, August 14th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 15th at 1:00 p.m.with Fr. David Placette of St. Catherine Church conducting the service at Grammier- Oberle Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow with interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
