Heat index rising to triple digits this week; showers possible

Summer temperatures are expected to soar today and Tuesday with the mercury rising to the mid-90s, and the heat index reaching sweltering triple digits.
There is also a chance of afternoon thunderstorms throughout the week.
Monday will see a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Skies will be mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 105. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service’s Lake Charles office.
Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 78. South wind 5 to 10 mph.
A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast for Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and a high near 94. Heat index values Tuesday will be as high as 105. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south in the afternoon.
Don’t expect much relief Wednesday as temperatures are forecast to remain in the mid-90s, though skies will be partly cloudy to provide some shade.
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms remains in the forecast through Saturday, with temperatures cooling into the lower 90s.
