Orangefield inmate dies from hanging in OC jail

An Orangefield man died from his injuries after Orange County jail officials found him attempting to commit suicide by hanging in the county jail.
According to a press statement issued by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Wednesday, the inmate, 25-year-old Brandon Mayo was pronounced dead on Wednesday at 2:40 p.m.
Mayo was first taken to Baptist Hospital in Orange after corrections nurses attempted to revive him until emergency responders arrived. Mayo was later transferred to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont for overnight treatment, but died from his injuries.
Mayo was taken into custody June 11 for drug charges.The Texas Commission on Jail Standards and the Texas Rangers are conducting an independent investigation on Mayo’s death.
