The Port Arthur Beautification Commission an affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful kicks off “Clean-Up Port Arthur” month on Saturday, April 2, teaming with Keep Texas Beautiful Don’t Mess with Texas Great Texas Trash-Off.
The commission members (who are all volunteer citizens) are inviting all citizens to form teams or get their groups or clubs together and join us. Teams can consist of family members, church groups, business colleagues, school groups, students who need volunteer hours, or many other combinations. The work day begins at 8 a.m. with registration at the downtown pavilion on Procter Street. Teams can designate the area they plan to clean up or can be assigned an area by the Commission.
Teams, groups, individuals, etc. will pick up supplies when they register. The Beautification Commission will supply trash bags, gloves, and water for all teams. Filled bags, old tires, batteries, furniture, whatever is picked up may be left beside the road for City pick up.
Teams will be working from 8 a.m. until noon when everyone will return to the pavilion downtown to enjoy lunch, sponsored by Motiva, Coca Cola and the Port Arthur Royalist Civic and Social Club, with gifts from local merchants such as Wal Mart, HEB, Target, The Party Connection, and others.
Don’t miss this opportunity to help your neighbors improve the appearance of your community and our city. Remember¸ the beauty of Port Arthur is the duty of the citizens.
The Commission is emphasizing clean-up in April, plant-up in May (a free plant give away on May 7), and paint-up in June. For more information, contact Ellis at 982-3942 or Earl at 983-2913.
