John Elliot Fontnette (J.E.)

PORT ARTHUR- John Elliot Fontnette (J.E), a life long resident of Port Arthur, was called home by the Lord on December 8, 2006 after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 11, 1930 to the Late John and Stennie Fontnette. He was a member of Saint John’s Catholic Church in Port Ar thur, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hattie Fontnette of Port Arthur; daughters, Stannie Fontnette of Port Arthur, Collette Jones (Paul) of Port Arthur, Colleen Ho skins (Cornel) of San Anto nio; grandchildren, Cornell Allen (Shalanda), Ron Tay lor (Phebbie), Eriq Jackson, Lakia, April, Paul (PJ) Jones, Chanel and Chantel Hoskins; great grandchil dren, Ron Jr., Asia Taylor, Shaylynn Allen and Kenneth Milo; a host of nieces, neph ews, cousins, family, and friends; a devoted nephew, Herbert Fontnette (Sonny) and a special friend, Terry Holman. J.E. was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Vivian Taylor; brother, Her bert Fontnette (Chief); and his sister, Delores Bryson. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. also at St. John’s Catholic Church.



Joy Hughes Steele

Joy Hughes Steele, beloved wife, mother, and grand mother, went to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, De cember 10th at her home in Diana, Texas. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, De cember 15th at the First Christian Church, Port Ar thur- 5856 9th Ave. Joy graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School in 1958 and later graduated form Port Arthur Business School. Joy was a retiree of the Gulf-Chevron Chemical Corp. where she worked in several clerical positions and as a company facilitator. She served several years on the board of directors and as a chairman of the annual Buckner-Chevron Charity Golf Tournament in Beau mont. Joy was a home maker and a member of the Fellowship Bible Church. She is survived by her hus band, Jack Steele of Diana; daughters and sons-in-law, Jana Kay King and Ray Et ter of Richards, Texas and Jolene and Jeff Gates of White Oak; her mother, Pearl Speed of Port Arthur; grandchildren, Jaimee, Jor dan, Jensen, and Jilian Gates; brothers, Athan Hughes of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Roger Speed of Quitman, Texas, and Randy Speed of Port Neches, Texas; sisters, Rheda Darbonne of Nederland, Texas, Judy Le Maire of Gonzales, Louisi ana, and Margie Ambrose of Denison, Texas. She was preceded in death by her fa ther, Dennis Speed.
