NEDERLAND — Second grade students at Highland Elementary School in Nederland lined up on Wednesday to each pour slime on Principal George Rienstra.

During a coin competition, the second grade students brought the most money while the whole school raised their goal of $1,300 for a book drive. The money raised went to classroom sets of books and books for students from the book fair.

As Rienstra came out of the school in a white lab coat, gloves, swimming goggles and a white wig the students were sitting in a square ready for the action.

The students were cheering "Slime his face! Slime his face!"

After the whole second grade finished sliming the principal, five teachers grabbed the extra buckets of slime to finish it off.

When he walked back into the school, he was lime green.

The slime was made from apple sauce, water, and food coloring.

"They had a good time and that's what's important," Rienstra said.

Rienstra will retire this school year after being principal for six years.
