Former Mid-County resident Darrell Landry came from behind Sunday to nip Hunter Cooper by one stroke to win the Beaumont City Championship at newly renovated Henry Homberg Golf Club. Landry, who was one down going to the 35th hole, took advantage of an unfortunate double bogey on the par 3, 17th by Cooper to seize the lead with a par. He posted a two-under 70 on Sunday to finish with a 145. Cooper shot 73-73 for a 146. Marc Napier claimed First Flight with a 144 (70-74), while Roddy Weatherly took the Senior Flight, which used handicaps, with a 139 (67-72). A total of 52 players participated in the first tournament held since Homberg’s refurbishing . . . The duo of Cody Morris-Ron LaFleur shot a 63 to edge Kurt Roberts-Chris Dunn by a stroke to claim First Flight in the Joe Williamson Memorial 2 Person Scramble at Babe Zaharias. Second Flight ended in a two-way tie at 67 between Frankie Leblanc-Avery Leblanc and Mike Krautz-Slate Babineaux. Darren Meaux-Wes Sanderson took Third Flight with a 71, edging the duo of Kyle Stutes-Jacob Weeren by a shot. Closest to the pin winners were Cody Metts (No. 2) and Avery Leblanc (No. 12 . . . There was a two-way tie in the Babe Zaharias DogFight between the team of Cody Metts, Bill Hanley, Paul Duplantis and Harry Green (18&8) and the foursome of Steve Picou, John Bass, Charlie Huckaby and Caylon Walker. Closest to the hole winners were Jim Cooper (No. 2), Paul Brown (No. 7), Cricket Owen (No. 12) and Earl Rich (No. 15) . . . The Senior Game at The Babe was played in a two best ball format, with the team of Mike Lansford, Tom Hatcher, Robert Lynch and Art Miller winning the front nine in minus 2. On the back, the foursome of Larry Morris, Bob Byerly, Paul Duplantis and Maurice Ross won with minus 1. Closest to the pine winners were Pat Waite (No. 2), Rick Pritchett (No. 7, No. 12) and Harold Wilkinson (No. 15) . . . The Super Saturday Game at Babe Zaharias was also played in a team 2-ball format. The front nine was won in by the team of Thad Borne, Bill Hanley, Harold Guidry and Maurice Ross. The back went to the team of Jim Jordan, Earl Richard, Harry Green and Richard Sibley. No scores were reported . . . Rufus Mier finished plus 4 to win the Monday Seniors at Belle Oaks. Jim Brown and Bill Taylor tied for second at plus 3. Bill Worsham won closest to the pin on No. 8 . . . In the Friday Seniors at Belle Oaks, Taylor won with plus nine. Ron Somerville was second at plus 8, with Major Rising and Worsham tying for third at plus 4. Somerville was the closest to the pin winner on No. 15 . . . The Patch Senior 50 Plus game was played in a 2 ball format. Winning the front with minus 7 was the team of Roddy Weatherly, Bill Draughon, R. Guarnere and Glen Frederick. The back was won in minus 9 by the foursome of Charles Cooksey, Buddy Bailey, T. Johnson and Bob Barnes.
