— Memorial girls fall to North Shore in tiebreaker game

BAYTOWN — The Port Arthur Memorial girls got the second seed in the Class 5A playoffs after losing to North Shore 54-48 on Friday at Baytown Sterling. The Lady Titans then won a coin flip with Channelview to decide the second and third seeds.

The Lady Titans roared back from a double-digit halftime deficit to take a four-pont lead in the third quarter. However, North Shore rallied in the fourth to clinch its second victory in three meetings with Memorial. Ariel Hutchinson led Memorial in scoring with 20 points.

Memorial (26-6) will play Pasadena Memorial in the bidistrict round of the playoffs at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Channelview.

Nederland routs Lumberton

NEDERLAND — On Senior Night, the Nederland boys basketball team beat Lumberton 78-40 Friday at the Dog Dome in District 20-4A play.

Nederland (25-8, 11-2) got 20 points each from Zach English and Colton Weisbrod.  The Bulldogs are still tied with Ozen for second place, a game back of Beaumont Central with one to play.

Nederland will have a chance to grab a share of the 20-4A title with a win Tuesday, as the Bulldogs finish the season at Beaumont Central at 7:30 p.m.

PN-G falls to Ozen, still in fourth

BEAUMONT — The Port Neches-Groves boys basketball team fell 63-44 to Beaumont Ozen on Friday in District 20-4A play.

PN-G (11-18, 6-7) is still tied with Lumberton for the fourth and final playoff spot in the district, after the Raider fell to Nederland Friday. The Indians were led by Brandon Pham, who had 18 points, and A.J. Smith, who had 15. Ozen’s Kourtney Williams scored 14 while Jordan Hunter had 11.

The Indians close out the regular season by hosting Livingston at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday while Lumberton will host Beaumont Ozen.
