Nederland capsule: The Bulldogs are one win away from completing two straight perfect runs through District 20-4A. With last week’s victory over Lumberton, the Bulldogs clinched their second straight district title. The last time they won two straight was from 1963-65, when the Bulldogs won three straight district titles under Gene Henderson. … With a win this week, Nederland will also assure themselves to finish with no more than two losses this season. Last year, the Bulldogs finished 11-2. The last time they had back-to-back season with two or fewer losses was in 1999-2000. … This year’s Bulldog defense is on a pace to be better than last year’s group statistically. In 2011, the Bulldogs allowed 16.2 points per game with two shutouts. This year, Nederland is averaging 12.4 points allowed per game with one to play. This year’s team has to hold Central to 49 or fewer points to finish with a better scoring defense than the 2011 team. … Colton Kimler added to his district-leading interception total with his sixth of the season. He now has three more than second place, which includes teammate Michael Shaw with three INTs of his own. Nederland had five regular-season interceptions last year.

Central capsule: The Jaguars have lost two of their last three games, but the one victory came at an opportune time. With the playoffs on the line, Central beat LC-M last week 44-28 to stay in the postseason hunt. … Central beat Nederland in 2010 at home, but haven’t beaten the Bulldogs at Bulldog Stadium since a 35-14 victory in 2009. … Jags quarterback Robert Mitchell has been on a kick to end the season. In his last five games, Mitchell is 83 for 136 passing for 1,052 yards with 10 TDS and four INTs. He’s completed 61 percent of his passes and taken over the lead in 20-4A for passing yards with 1,524 this season. He’s also rushed for 420 yards and seven TDs, averaging 56.4 rushing yards per game in his last five. … Mitchell has two receivers in second place in the district with 32 catches apiece. Junior Garrison Mitchell has 32 catches for 435 yards and three TDs while Nicalus Rhone has 32 catches for 379 yards and one TD.

Neumann said: “Robert Mitchell, everything starts over there with him. He’s a tremendous athlete, quarterback, trigger man. Everything about their offense goes off him, whether it’s throwing the ball or running the ball. On top of that, they have a group of receivers that’s as good as any we have played this year. They do a good job of uncovering when he’s being chased or extending a play. He finds a way to let those receivers open up. That in and of itself will cause anyone anxiety, but they run the ball really well too. You can’t fly up field every down to put pressure or contain him. There’s a reason they’re the No.1 passing offense in the district.”
