Hits were definitely tough to come by but the Bridge City Cardinals went on the road and picked up an important 2-1 District 21-3A victory over the Silsbee Tigers Tuesday night behind an outstanding pitching performance by Chase Shugart.
The Cardinals (12-2-2, 2-0) picked up four hits while the Tigers (9-5-1, 1-2) had just three as Shugart stifled Silsbee throughout the night by posting 16 strikeouts to go along with four walks.
Bridge City went up 2-0 in the top half of the fourth inning.
Shugart helped himself out when he smacked a double and Jonah Watts drove in the run with a RBI single.
The Cardinals snagged a run in the top of the first.
Keaton Langston drew a walk and Kyle Bergeron plated him with a run-scoring single.
The Tigers managed to scratch in a run in the bottom of the seventh off a Jordan Gore RBI double after a walk.
Silsbee had runners on second and third in the third but Shugart got out of it with a strikeout.
Tyler Powell had a single for the Tigers in second inning and Jordan Gore had a single in the third inning.
Langston had a single for the Cardinals in the top half of the seventh.
The Cardinals will venture to Hamshire-Fannett Friday to take on the Longhorns.
In other 21-3A action Tuesday night, Hamshire-Fannett turned back the Buna Cougars 9-2.
