LEANDER — The Port Arthur Memorial 7-on-7 team tried to make another valiant run through the Division I consolation bracket on Saturday, but that run ended in the second round.

Memorial beat Mercedes 33-20 in the first round before losing 52-40 to Weslaco, who made the bracket semifinals before falling to eventual consolation champs A&M Consolidated.

The Tigers beat Arlington Lamar 42-34 in the consolation finals, winning five games on Saturday after losing all three of their pool games Friday.

In the championship bracket, Southlake Carroll beat Houston Stratford 46-27 to claim the title. Carroll scored at least 40 points in every one of its games on Saturday, beating  Cy Falls, Cy Fair, Houston Lamar, Arlington Bowie and Stratford.

It is the second time Southlake Carroll won the title, taking the inaugural one in 1998 with a 47-33 victory over Grapevine. Baytown Lee is the only other Division I team to win multiple titles, winning in 2001 and 2006.

Last year, Plano took the Division I title while Celina won in Division II. Celina has won a 7-on-7 title a record four times, winning in 2000, 2007, 2009 and 2012.
