The Nederland Bulldogs boys soccer team had reason to celebrate after Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs took their rival Port Neches-Groves Indians to two overtime periods and eventually took down the home team 5-3 in a shootout.
Nederland’s win at The Reservation gives the Bulldogs the outright District 38-4A championship over the Indians.
Tuesday’s highly anticipated match up was a thriller that saw PN-G lead for most of the match, basically for about 60 minutes.
The Indians broke through in the 20th minute on a goal from Koby Jones.
It took some time and hard work for Nederland to break through the PN-G defense in the second half but Dogs junior Joshua Gracian was able to tie the score and force the overtime period.
Neither team would score in either of the two overtime periods to force the game-deciding shootout.
The Bulldogs clinched the outright title the moment the match went into the shootout so Nederland had no pressure from that moment on.
Nederland now faces Livingston.
PN-G drops down to the third seed out of the district, behind Little Cypress-Mauriceville.
The Indians will likely face Jasper in the first round with the Bears likely to face Lumberton.
