Prince deserves support of voters for PA mayor

The Port Arthur News

PORT ARTHUR — Port Arthur Mayor Deloris “Bobbie” Prince has provided effective leadership to Port Arthur through major hurricanes and a severe economic downturn, and the city’s budget is strong and progress is being made in the city’s Downtown and West End. These are some of the reasons we believe voters should give Mayor Prince another term in office, which will be her last because of term limits.

Mayor Prince has proven to be an effective advocate for Port Arthur, lobbying for funds from Washington, D.C., where she played a large role in having the city named one of three Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Justice Showcase Communities. That was an important step in a $1 million agreement between Valero and the EPA that funded the building of the Westside Community Health Clinic.

By effectively working with local industry, Mayor Prince was instrumental in securing an $850,000 donation from Motiva that funded the West Side Development Center, which was recently completed and will bring service and programs to the neighborhood of the people they serve.

When Hurricanes Ike and Humberto brought their destructive winds and waters to Southeast Texas, Mayor Prince provided strong leadership that resulted in order being kept in town and lives and property being protected. That crisis was a true test and Mayor Prince proved she was up to the challenge.

Mayor Prince understands the role of mayor in a city manager form of government like Port Arthur has and she has worked through the proper channels to move the city forward. She spends endless hours as an ambassador for the city at ribbon cuttings, chamber banquets and countless other functions.

We appreciate the contribution Harold Doucet has made to the city in the past two years as council member for District 4. But we think voters should stay with the proven leadership of Mayor Prince and return her for one more term as mayor.
