PORT ARTHUR —
God granted Sister Sadie Christian her earnest request on January 17, 2013, when He allowed her to transition to glory in the comfort of her own home. “Miss Sadie” reached the age of 99, just one day short of her 100th birthday on January 18.
Miss Sadie came to live in Port Arthur at an early age and was educated at Lincoln High School.
She married Joseph Christian in November 1943, a partnership that lasted until his death in 2007.
Miss Sadie was an active, lifelong member of New Hope, serving as an usher and youth sponsor for many years.
She became especially close to Rev. Dr. Jimmy D. and Mrs. Pam Hunter during his pastorate at New Hope, and they kept in close contact with her.
Her husband’s relatives were always checking on her. Most recently, her husband’s niece, Mrs. Josephine Broussard and her daughter Janet moved in with Miss Sadie to care for her. Other survivors include several nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends.
Visitation is scheduled on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 9 am to 11 am at New Hope MBC. Funeral services follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
