PORT ARTHUR —
Melia Thomas, a native of Opelousas, LA and a thirteen year resident of Port Arthur, TX was born October 16, 1923 to the late Preston and Mary Guillory Thomas.
In the year 2001, Melia and her sister Marie (deceased) moved to Port Arthur, TX to reside with their sisters. They united with the St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Elijah James and remained a faithful member.
Melia resided at Cypress Glen East of Port Arthur, TX for the past three years. She was a member of the Golden Girls Red Hatters Society (Nursing Home). Melia was well loved not only by the nursing staff but also other employees and anyone that came in contact with her. Melia’s beautiful smile and her witty come back will truly be missed.
She departed this earthly life on January 7, 2013 at Cypress Glen East Nursing Home in Port Arthur, TX after a short illness.
Cherishing her memories are her sisters Mrs. Lillian T. Brown, Mrs. Mary A. Edwards, Ms. Ella M. Thomas all of Port Arthur; nieces and nephews Albert Brown (Georgia), Preston Brown, Cupid Clark (Cynthia), Betty Edwards (Floyd), Elsie Edwards (Alfred), Yvonne Edwards (Jim), and a devoted niece Mary A. Thomas all of Port Arthur, TX; Curtis Brown, Rogers Brown (Shirley), Cora Brown, Nora Brown, Betty J. Brown all of Houston, TX, and Joseph Brown of Kansas. Special loving and devoted friends Mr. and Mrs. Ezekiel Edwards of Houston, TX, Mrs. Carrie Nell Williams and family, James Carey, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to Cypress Glen East Nursing Home, St. Mary’s Hospital (Dubuis Unit), and Odyssey Hospice staff. May God bless all of you.
Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Gabriel Funeral Home Chapel with a viewing from 9 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
