PORT ARTHUR —
Lue Bertha Harris, 90, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2013 at her home. She was born November 27, 1922 in Marksville, Louisiana to Mondella Williams and Ellmas McIntosh. She moved to Port Arthur more than 70 years ago.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was always there for her family and friends. She loved gardening. She would plant vegatables, canned figs, make strawberry jelly and especially planting and watching her flowers grow.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church over 70 years. She was active in the Altar Society, 8:00am Choir and the first Bereavement Committee at the church, until her health failed. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Club Royal Social Club. She was active in the Friends of Mary Rosary Group.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mondella & Ellmas Williams, brother Cleveland Williams; sisters Ola Washington, Beryl Simon, Tessie Ford and Odella Channel.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years Thomas J. Harris; children Mary Ethel Mitchell, Joseph Ray Channell and Silas Channell, Jr. (Sheryl) and Frank Harris; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Helen Beecher, Lessie McGlory and Callie Williams.
Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, January 19, 2013 with Father Charles Atuah, MSP, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:00am, rosary at 9:00am and the funeral will be at 10:00am. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
