James “Jim” Ferrante, 92, of Groves, passed away, Wednesday March 13, 2013 at the West Houston Medical Center in Houston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves with Rev. Msgr. Kenneth Greig officiating with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves under the direction of Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland.
A gathering of Jim’s family and friends will be from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Jim was born November 29, 1920 in Wellsville, Ohio to the late Joe and Pauline Ferrante. He married Margaret “Maggie” Colletti, April 21, 1946 after the war, in Port Arthur at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and moved back to Ohio in 1946.
They returned to Texas in 1958 to go into the Colletti family grocery business. He retired in 1985 after nearly 30 years in the grocery business ending with the Ferrante Thrifty Nifty store in Groves.
Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and received two Bronze Stars.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Santina Randazo and husband, Tony, Rose Cassara and husband Charles, Eleanor Pizzo and husband, Sam; brothers, Frank Ferrante, Tony Ferrante and wife, Margaret, John Ferrante, Sam Ferrante and wife, Elsie, and Angelo Ferrante. He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Maggie” Ferrante; son, Joey Ferrante and his wife, Colleen “Coco” ; his niece, Paula Moore Perry and husband, Waymon; great-niece, Stephanie Meyer; his sister-in-law, Louise Colletti; his sisters, Marie Vinciguerra and Grace Vitale; also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Wisconsin.
