Hans Walter Schulz, 95, of Nederland, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Cypress Glen Nursing Home and Rehab, Port Arthur. He was born on April 9, 1918, to Gertrude Manthey Schulz and Kurt Schulz, in Neuenburg, Germany, and had been a resident of the area since 1963.
Hans was a veteran of the United States Navy Air Force, having been in active duty during World War II. He spent his career working mainly as a Welding Foreman and later retired from Gulfport Shipbuilding. Hans was an avid hunter and enjoyed working outdoors. He and his son, Randy, completed many labors of love around Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Nederland. Most years and while he was able, Hans supervised the setup and removal of the Christmas tree each December at the church. Most of all, he will be remembered as a great husband and loving father.
Hans is survived by his daughter, Rachel Cleven of Austin; grandchildren, Michael John Cleven and Laura Rena Cleven; and brothers, Rolf Schulz and his wife, Linda Gail, of Bridge City and Dieter Schulz and his wife, Linda Lee, of Port Neches.
Hans is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mamie Helen Schulz; son, Randy Schulz; and numerous relatives and friends.
A gathering of Mr. Schulz’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2711 Helena Avenue, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, with entombment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
