Bernice Mary Schexenider, 93, of LaBelle, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Christus Hospital St. Mary, Port Arthur. Born July 8, 1919, to Ida and Clovis Lavergne in Church Point, Louisiana, Bernice worked for many years as a machine operator with Texaco, before her retirement. She was a member of the Kaycette’s #3195 and longtime member of St. Therese, the Little Flower Church. Bernice enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, her flowers and was the greatest mother in the world.
She is survived by her son, Michael Schexenider of LaBelle; daughter, Beverly Rose Phillips and her husband, Wayne, of Houston; grandchildren, Renee O’Neil and Debra Brantner; great-grandchildren, Morgan O’Neil, Haylie O’Neil, McKenzie O’Neil and Jared Brantner; and sisters, Dioris Thibodeaux of Port Acres and Etelene Lavergne of Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jessie Schexenider; grandson, Edwin Phillips; sisters, Rosa Belle Matte, Agnes Smith, and Eva Mae Benoit.
A gathering of Mrs. Schexenider’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2013, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013, at St. Therese, the Little Flower of Jesus Catholic Church, 6412 Garnet Avenue, Port Arthur, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
