Gene Elwin Smith, 78, of Nichols Creek, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Harbor Hospital in Beaumont. Born on November 29, 1934 in Port Arthur, Texas to his parents, Ed Smith and Artimese (Ellender) Smith, he lived in Nichols Creek since 1978, he worked as a repair technician for Southwestern Bell and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. Gene was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Buna, he enjoyed the gardening of flowers, fruit trees, riding his four wheeler, enjoying the outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents and his numerous brothers and sisters. Those who will most cherish his memory are his wife, Ann Smith of Nichols Creek; his daughters, Missy Flowers and husband, Dirk of Mauriceville, Dee Melich Barraza of Orange and Joni Smith of Nichols Creek; his grandchildren, Tiffeny Landry and husband, Dom, Rochelle Briggs and husband, Jonah, Charlsey Herin and husband, Jesse and Robert Melich and wife, Tara; his great grandchildren, Colby, Logan, Hallie, Bo, Jaxon, Jaycee, Jenna, Brooklynn, Chloe, Slade, Abigail and another one on the way.
Gene is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Services by which to remember his life will be at 6:00 P.M. Sunday, August 18, 2013 in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange with Father Delphyne Meeks, officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Cremation will be held following services. Family and friends may sign the register and leave condolences at http://www.dormanfuneralhome.com/.
