PORT ARTHUR —
Merlin James Lopez, 85, of Port Arthur, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013. He was born October 3, 1927 in Cade, Louisiana to the late Fernest and Moita Latiolias Lopez. Merlin is described by his family as a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy and retired from Texaco in 1984. Merlin was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port Arthur and also volunteered his time with the Hospitality Center. He will be greatly missed by many.
Merlin is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Lorraine Broussard Lopez.
Merlin is survived by his sons, Bryan Lopez of Groves; Jeff Lopez of Port Arthur; daughters, Debbie Lopez of Port Arthur; Genny Patin and her husband Paul of Port Arthur; sister, Betty Delcambre and her husband Johnny of New Iberia, Louisiana; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Port Arthur, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves with Rev. Stephen McCrate officiating.
