PORT ARTHUR —
The pearly gates opened wide Monday morning, April 8, 2013 at 8:32am to welcome Mrs. Arzelia Anderson Hennington whose earthly journey was completed. She gave notice that she had moved from her old home to her new home in glory.
Arzelia Anderson Hennington, 83, was born to the late Burvin and Oleavia Anderson on March 5, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas.
Arzelia was a graduate of Lincoln High School class of 1948.
She attended Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas and received a Bachelor of Arts. She later earned a Masters of Education degree from Texas Southern University and a certification in Administration from Lamar University.
Mrs. Hennington served 30 years in the Port Arthur Independent School District where she held various positions from elementary school teacher to Assistant Principal at Franklin Elementary School.
Mrs. Hennington was a member of the First Sixth Street Baptist Church for 83 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Burvin and Oleavia Anderson and brother, James N Anderson, Sr.
She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, John C. Hennington, daughter, Rhonda Jordan (Steven), son, Adam Chester Sheppard (Deatera), three granddaughters, Shonterra, Sierra, Siani Jordan, sister, Evelyn Phillips, brother, Lawrence G. Anderson (Loris), nieces, Kathleen Davis (Marcus), Dr. Karen Anderson, Stephanie Elaine Shortt, and Lauren G. Anderson, nephew, James N. Anderson, Jr., one great nephew, Marcus Davis Jr., and a host of other relatives and special friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the First Sixth Street Baptist Church, 548 Abe Lincoln Avenue, Port Arthur, Texas. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00pm, immediately following visitation. The service will be Officiated by Rev. Thurman Bartie.
Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
