The Groves Beautification Committee is looking to spruce up their annual Christmas event and help with maintenance at Celebration Park.
The help with funding of the projects, the committee will host a city-wide garage sale fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Groves Activity Building.
Olivia Wellings, garage sale committee chairman, said there will be 28 booths filled with items.
“We have a good variety of items that are coming in, especially with the holidays around the corner,” Wellings said. “We’ll have holiday decor, Nascar items, PN-G items and more. You don’t have to worry about the weather because the garage sale will be held inside the activity building and there’s plenty of parking.”
Celebration Park, located at the corner of Coolidge Street and Lincoln Avenue, features a gazebo, benches, shrubs and flowers and is often the backdrop for photos. Weddings and reunions are sometimes held at the park as well.
The city assists the committee with the park but most of the funding comes from fundraisers.
The committee will also be selling its “well known” tender links and drinks inside the building and persons interested in joining the Groves Beautification Committee can visit the committee’s booth during the event.
Wellings said the group plans to host its popular Christmas event again this year and plans to use some of the proceeds to purchase additional lights for the Christmas tree at the park.
“One day we’d like to see the whole park lit up,” she said.
The tree has already been ordered and the choir obtained. Decorating of the park will begin sometime in November.
