NEDERLAND — The rezoning of a trailer park received the green light from Nederland City Council on Monday.

Harris Mobile Home Park, located in the 2800 block of Avenue H, was rezoned from neighborhood retail commercial to manufactured home district. The owners will work to bring the property into compliance with city ordinance.

In 2010, the city underwent some rezoning which made all of the city’s manufactured home parks out of compliance. The City of Nederland now requires that a manufactured home park not be less than two acres or include fewer than 10 spaces in addition to other requirements.

Harris Mobile Home Park isn’t the first to come to the city requesting the rezoning classification.

“We first considered rezoning on Helena a few years ago then the city approved the rezoning on FM 365 two years ago,” City Manger Chris Duque said. “That one took a little while longer, it was drawn-out based on issues there and meeting the criteria.”

Duque explained that council has a history of working with the mobile home park owners and that the property must first be rezoned before more trailers can be moved in.”

In other business, city council approved a proclamation in regards to Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
