BPD warns of phone scam

BEAUMONT — The Beaumont Police Department is warning citizens about a phone scam in which the caller claims to be an FBI agent.

The caller does not ask for money, but tells the victim they have a reward and all they have to do is pay taxes. Police said he is very convincing and assures the victim he is not out to scam them. In the end, the victim is asked to make the tax payment, according to a press release from BPD.

“This may not be the only agency the scam artist represents or the actual scenario. Be on alert for all types of scams and  never transfer funds or give information without checking the source out first,” according to the press release. “These type of scam artist can be very convincing. Please warn your family and friends.”
