Though it shouldn’t threaten Southeast Texas, Tropical Storm Chantal is a reminder that the 2013 hurricane season is predicted to be busy by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Computer-generated models, also known as spaghetti models, show the storm nearing Cuba then taking a more northerly direction.
According to Donovan Landreneau, NWS meotorlogist and forecaster, it’s still a little to early to tell exactly what Mother Nature has in mind.
“You have to play it by ear,” Landreneau said, referring to how difficult it can be to predict the actions of a storm so far out. “Some models show it weakening, it’s got a lot of obstacles in its way; however, I won’t say this isn’t going into the Gulf.”
