$2 million bond set for Hamshire murder suspect

The Port Arthur News

— Judge Layne Walker set a $2 million bond on murder suspect James Martin Chaney at Friday’s arraignment hearing.

Chaney, 44, of Hamshire was arrested Thursday after telling a neighbor he “shot his girlfriend.” Tina Gail Aubey, 42, also of Hamshire, was found dead at a home on Heckaman Loop with multiple gunshot wounds.

At approximately 10:44 a.m. Thursday the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office dispatch received a call of a shooting in the 15600 block of Heckaman Loop in Hamshire. The caller advised that the neighbor had just come to his door and advised that he had just "shot his girlfriend."

A deputy constable from Jefferson County Precinct 4 Constable's Office observed a vehicle leaving the residence. He followed the vehicle, giving out the direction of travel undetected by the suspect. The vehicle stopped at the gas station at 24740 IH-10 (near Hamshire Rd). Deputies from the Constable's Office and Sheriff's Office approached the suspect as he exited his vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The two children of the suspect and victim were located inside the vehicle unharmed.
