Murder suspect Cody Lewis, who has eluded law enforcement for more than two weeks in the murder of a Dallas man, was located in East Texas Thursday night.
Lewis, 27, fled into a wooded area from a home in Pennington, Texas and was apprehended without incident after a short search, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Rod Carroll said in a press release.
Deputies are currently pursuing the charge of harboring a fugitive against several family members and friends who they believe assisted Lewis in hiding.
“He was taken to the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office where he was booked in,” Carroll said. “He was then brought here last night.”
Law enforcement believe Lewis, who has family in the Trinity County area, had been staying in several different locations during the two week period. A Crime Stoppers tip led deputies to Pennington which is located about 130 miles from the Jefferson County area.
Lewis, of Beaumont, is the third suspect arrested in connection with the murder of Kevin Moyer whose nude body was found wrapped in a sheet in his car on South China Road April 5. A warrant was previously issued on Lewis for the charge of tampering with physical evidence in reference to the incident with Moyer.
Arthur Christopher Harmon, 21, and Yiannis Nikolaos Mihail, 31, both of Beaumont, were arrested for murder on April 7. Bond was set at $1 million on each.
The apparent motive for the murder, according to the probable cause affidavit, was robbery.
The men reportedly lured Moyer to a home in Beaumont in order to rob him. Moyer was killed during the robbery. The suspects then put the victim’s body in a car and dumped the body and the car on South China Road. The victim was positively identified by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner via dental records on April 9.
