(AP) The 13th named storm of the season, Melissa, is not a threat to land.
The has maximum sustained winds Monday are near 50 mph with some strengthening forecast. The storm is expected to transition to a tropical storm by Tuesday.
Melissa is centered about 695 miles east-southeast of Bermuda and is moving northwest near 9 mph.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says large swells from the storm are already affecting parts of the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and the southeastern Bahamas.
