NEDERLAND — A fire broke out in a pickup truck parked at Nederland High School that spread and left seven other vehicles damaged on Wednesday.

Nederland Fire Chief Terry Morton said the truck was destroyed and the other vehicles had varying degrees of damage but no one was injured.

The cause, he said, is undetermined at this time but Morton said it might be some kind of electrical failure.

The Nederland Fire Department released this picture of the fire damage.

“Some of those are hard to pinpoint,” Morton said. “The cab was pretty much destroyed and it appears most of the fire damage is concentrated to the dash area.”

A Facebook post on the Nederland Independent School District site said the vehicle fire happened at approximately 10 a.m. in the student parking lot. Local emergency officials were contacted immediately and the fire as contained.

Nederland High School Principal Steven Beagle said the fire department is looking into the cause of the fire.

The fire happened during transition, Beagle said, as students were going form building to building, adding that if it had happened during class it might not have been seen as soon as it was.

There were no injuries to students or staff.
