Officers were able to gather limited information, and learned that several masked subjects arrived at the residence searching for a subject.

Rivera confronted these subjects and an altercation ensued. He sustained visible injuries to his facial area as the result.

Officers responding to the location observed a small passenger vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed leaving Sabine Pass. Officers pursued the vehicle into Port Arthur, and later found the vehicle abandoned in the 4500 block of 13th St. Officers had reason to believe this vehicle was involved in the incident that occurred in Sabine Pass.

Approximately three hours later, Port Arthur Police Department learned that Rivera passed away at the hospital from the injuries sustained during the incident. The Criminal Investigation Division began investigating the incident and later learned that Rivera was shot in the mouth.

This marks the third homicide in two days in the city.
