  • The Port Arthur Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will host a political forum on Tuesday, April 19th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Lamar State College-Port Arthur Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
  • Opening of the Tugboat Island Playground time capsule, 2 p.m., Thursday, April 21, at the entrance to the playground. Persons who worked on Tugboat Island 20 years ago and the general public are invited.

  • Hebert Public Library, “Photoshop Basics” class on Friday, Apr. 22, 3 p.m., at 2025 Merriman St. in Port Neches.Learn to use Photoshop Elements to tweak your photos – or to transform them into works of art. We will cover the basic toolbar and the Quick Edit workspace.
  • Golf Scramble benefiting the Fetters Center (center for mentally & physically challenged adults) in Groves, sponsored by the Groves Knight of Columbus, is set for Saturday, April 23, 8:00 am at Babe Zaharias Golf Course. 4 player team scramble, $60 per player for entry fee, includes 18 holes with cart, food and drinks.   • Port Neches RiverFest Fun Run will be held at Port Neches Riverfront Park on Saturday, April 23. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. and the 1K at 9 a.m. Sponsored by Exygon.
  • Port Neches RiverFest Barbecue Cook-off will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the Neches River Wheelhouse Restaurant in Port Neches. Sponsored by Five Point FCU.
  • The Port Arthur Chapter of Seniors will sponsor a casino bus trip to New Orleans on Saturday, April 23, The bus will depart at 5:30 a.m. from the Wal Mart Twin City parking lot. Call Sandra Cormier, president, at 293-2017 for a seat.
  • A register to vote campaign concert featuring Ms. Ariel Moses with guest Mr. Akers, minister of music at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at Solid Rock Baptist Church, 1337 Fifth St. in Port Arthur. Mayoral candidates Harold Doucet and Janice Milo will introduce their plans for the city. Derrick Freeman was invited. Runoff candidates for sheriff in the Democratic Primary runoff election Zena Stephens and Joe “QB” Stevenson will tell their plans for the Sheriff’s Department. Each candidate will be limited to 7 minutes.

  • The Lincoln High School Class of 976 will have their Class Meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24 at the Port Arthur Public Library.

  • Hebert Public Library, “Intro to iMac” class on Wednesday, Apr. 27, 11 a.m., at 2025 Merriman St. in Port Neches.Test drive a shiny new iMac computer, learn to navigate within the Mac environment, and get familiar with some of the more popular Mac applications.
  • Hebert Public Library, Book-a-Librarian session on Friday, Apr. 29, 11 a.m., at 2025 Merriman St. in Port Neches. You have a librarian’s undivided attention for an hour. Need help downloading photos from your phone? Want to set up a new iPad?   • Port Neches RiverFest Veteran’s Parade, 11 a.m., Saturday, April 30. Parade line-up begins at 10 a.m. Parade will begin on Merriman at Port Neches-Groves High School Stadium entrance and end at the park pavilion with a small ceremony. Entries are for veterans only.   • The Golden Triangle Bromeliad Society will hold its annual pre Mother’s Day sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Central Mall. Potted plants, and mounted plants, which are not in dirt, will be available. Members will be on hand to provide information about how to grow the plants.
  • A Health Fair, hosted by Golden Triangle Emergency Center & Total Care will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Golden Triangle Emergency Center, 8035 Memorial Blvd., Port Arthur.  There will be Face Painting, Food and a Bounce House!  There will Vaccines, Physicals and Cardiac /EKG Screenings.
