Nederland, governor denounce pro-rape men’s group

NEDERLAND — A men’s rights group that touts neo-masculinity and the legalization of rape if done on private property has scheduled a ‘secretive’ meeting in Nederland this weekend.

The Nederland meeting will coincide with meetings across Texas, other states and in more than 40 countries, according to the International Return of Kings website. The ROK site is owned by Daryush Valizadeh, also known as Roosh V, who is a self-published American author.

“We received a phone call from a concerned individual,” Nederland City Manager Chris Duque said of the meeting. “Then we received some more calls this (Wednesday) morning after the media saw it. The police department is looking into it and researching to better understand the purpose of the meeting.”

The seven Texas meeting locations listed on the site include Austin, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, Houston, Nederland and San Antonio — with Nederland the smallest of the cities.

“If you look at all the cities listed on the website, the majority are much larger cities. I didn’t see a city our size in Texas,” Duque said. “This is something we don’t understand but that’s besides the point. We need to deal with the fact they want to come here.”

Duque said there would be an appropriate police presence as the police continue to research the motives and intentions of the group.

“This group appears to be seeking notoriety or publicity,” he said. “I think it would help if we don’t facilitate this organization to gain additional notoriety or publicity in our community.”

The city of Nederland released a statement regarding the proposed meeting.

“Today, the Nederland Police Department was notified of a possible “meeting” to be held at Doornbos Park this weekend. The organizers of this meeting advocate the legalization of rape. Rape is a despicable act of violence against women, men, and children, and the suggestion that this act should be legalized is morally reprehensible and sickening,” according to the city’s statement. “The City will continue to monitor plans for this possible meeting and asks the public to refrain from confronting any individual who attends the meeting. The City believes this organization is seeking notoriety so the lack of public attendance would serve to diminish their publicity. Finally, we ask the public to remember that Doornbos Park is and will remain a safe location for families and children to enjoy.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott also issued a statement on the group’s planned events in the state.

“This pathetic group and their disgusting viewpoints are not welcome in Texas. I’ve spent much of my career protecting women from such vile and heinous acts, and it won’t be any different on my watch as Governor,” according to the statement.

Roosh V, in his blog, calls women “reactionary in that they subconsciously assess the environment to determine how to proceed with mate selection.” If survival if hard and the woman does not have her basic needs of food and shelter filled she will latch on to a provider man. Conversely, if her basic needs are met she will pursue more “base hedonistic instincts while leisurely shopping around for the most high status male she can obtain.”

He has also stated a solution to rape would be legalizing rape if done on private property. This, he proposed, would make women protect their body.

“If rape becomes legal, a girl would not enter an impaired state of mind where she can’t resist being dragged off to a bedroom with a man who she is unsure of — she’ll scream, yell, or kick at his attempt while bystanders are still around. If rape becomes legal, she will never be unchaperoned with a man she doesn’t want to sleep with,” he said.

His site also links to a website search page with numerous stories of women who made false rape accusations.

Roosh V also believes men should be masculine and women should be feminine, that “men will opt out of monogamy and reproduction if there is no incentives to engage in them,” and “a woman’s value significantly depends on her fertility and beauty. A man’s value significantly depends on his resources, intellect and character.”
