NPD: Upwards of 20 cars burglarized, all were unlocked

NEDERLAND — Upwards of 20 vehicles were burglarized over the weekend in Nederland and all had been left unlocked.

Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush said the burglaries occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning in the 2900 and 3000 blocks of Lawrence and Memphis.

“Most of the vehicles were gone through, some had nothing missing while some had personal items missing,” Bush said. “The common denominator between the crimes is that all of the vehicles were left unlocked. These were crimes of opportunity.”

Some of the items stolen include purses, iPads, and laptops that were left in plain sight.

Bush advises citizens to take their valuables out of their vehicles and make sure their vehicles are locked.

The Southeast Texas Auto theft Task Force advises citizens to keep all valuables and packages out of sight because these items will often encourage auto thieves.
