Beau Reve to host benefit for Austyn Halter

Music, carnival games, food and prizes are in the works for a benefit to help a little girl.

Austyn Halter, 2 ½, is diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and has begun a second round of chemotherapy. Her oncologist believes a bone marrow transplant will be beneficial in her recovery.

A benefit is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at Beau Reve, 4400 Atlantic Road in Port Arthur.

The grounds of the eatery will be filled with 19 carnival games, live entertainment, washer and horseshoe tournaments, cake walk, silent auction, live auction, raffle and door prizes.

Megan Anderle, a benefit committee member and family friend, said the toddler has been undergoing treatments at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston and expected to undergo at least a six month inpatient stay during her course of treatment.

Halter’s parents, Sarah and Josh Halter of Orangefield, are well known in the community — Josh worked in construction and Sarah is a neonatal nurse.

Despite the positive attitude of the family, there is still a concern about mounting medical bills, expected to exceed tens of thousands of dollars.
