ORANGE — The Texas Municipal Police Association, representing 13 deputies who were terminated following the 2020 sheriff’s election, won a legal victory and compensation this week.

TMPA, under the lead of regional attorney Gregory Cagle, won $780,000 in back pay for the deputies.

“The affected deputies faced unjust terminations and reassignments under Sheriff Jimmy Mooney, which led to grievances under the Orange County collective bargaining agreement,” according to a news release from the organization.

“Despite legal challenges from Orange County, TMPA’s unwavering commitment to justice and the welfare of these members succeeded, ensuring the deputies received their due compensation.”

TMPA states the win is a testament to the organization’s dedication to protecting law enforcement officers across Texas.

“This achievement highlights the critical role of unity and robust legal protecting for our officers. We are committed to vigorously defending our members’ rights,” TMPA Executive Director Kevin Lawrence said.

TMPA is the largest law enforcement association in Texas and represents more than 33,500 local, county and state law enforcement officers across Texas.
