Port Arthur Public Library, Nederland hosting solar eclipse event; free fun planned

The Port Arthur Public Library is giving out free “Certified Solar Eclipse Glasses” to all valid library card holders.
The glasses are being distributed at the front desk, on a first come, first served basis.
On Monday, starting at noon, the Port Arthur Public Library is holding a viewing event in the Lucy Stiefel Gallery at 12:22 p.m. until max eclipse at 1:42 p.m. (91%).
“We will have activities, multimedia display and light refreshments,” library leaders say.

The community is welcome to come out for MoonDay (April 8) at Doornbos Park to view the solar eclipse.
Viewing glasses, snacks, drinks and activities are available to enjoy the monumental event.
The eclipse begins at 12:22 p.m., with maximum coverage at 1:42 p.m. and the eclipse ends at 3:03 p.m.
In Port Neches, officials with the Effie & Wilton Hebert Public Library said they would be giving out solar eclipse glasses on Sunday and the day of the eclipse (April 8), while supplies last — one per person.
On Wednesday on social media, officials with Groves Public Library announced no more solar eclipse glasses are available after this week’s giveaway.
