NEDERLAND — A 22-year-old Beaumont man who was arrested for fleeing from police may face additional charges for harboring a runaway.
Nederland Assistant Police Chief Andy Arnold said authorities received a call of a juvenile female runaway, and the search led investigators to Beaumont on Dec. 12.
During the search, Nicholas Barton got into a vehicle and fled authorities who attempted to make a traffic stop, Arnold said.
The vehicle was stopped in the 1000 block of Cardinal Drive in Beaumont, and the driver was arrested, at which time police found the runaway with him in the vehicle.
Nederland police was assisted by Beaumont Police Department.
As of Friday, Barton was listed as an inmate at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility with a charge of evading arrest and bond set at $10,000.
Arnold said police will file charges of harboring a runaway with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office.
