GROVES — Dollar General on Main Avenue in Groves has been closed indefinitely, authorities said.
Groves Fire Marshal/Assistant Fire Chief Kelley Moore made the announcement Thursday for the location at 3800 Main Avenue.
According to Moore, he has received complaints over a few months from the public concerning safety issues.
Fire inspectors reported finding the store exhibited “ongoing life safety violations of the fire code.”
Those included products stacked too close to ceiling, stocking carts blocking customer aisles, overcrowded storage room and an inoperable exit sign.
“These violations directly impact not only the safety of Doller General customers but also its employees,” a release from the City of Groves stated.
Moore added, “We have met several times since October with Dollar General officials, including the store manager, district manager and the regional manager in an attempt to work with the business and help them remedy their safety issues. While we never want to resort to the closure of a business and we will work with a business in every way to avoid it, we must place the safety of the public and employees ahead of profit and sales taxes.”
Dollar General will be closed through at least the weekend and can be re-inspected on Monday if the required corrections are made.
