Dear Editor,
In 2009 my wife and I made our first trip to Port Neches when our son was hired as one of the new football coaches.
We grew up in Brownwood, Texas, and were familiar with the town support and school spirit of a football program. I never thought I would see such support and spirit in another town until I came to Port Neches.
We would make the 4.5-hour trip for at least three home games, an out of town game and all playoff games.
Never once did the opposing fan base outnumber the PNG fans home, away or a neutral site.
I totally bought into the program and the town’s people and looked forward to Friday nights.
Even when we could not make it, we listened on the radio. Thank you, Lance, for the entertainment!
The school spirit was amazing and brought back memories at Brownwood.
To the people of Port Neches, thank you for you warm welcome and courteous treatment of us.
A special thank you to the McCutcheon family, who always made sure we had a place to sit with their family at all home games. We will never forget you.
I write this letter with great sadness as our son, after 11 years, has taken another job that the Lord has led him to. We will never forget you and I will miss those Friday nights at The Reservation and will miss saying “Scalp’em Indians! Scalp’em!”
God Bless all of you.
