Death of 4th Nederland resident (2nd this week) linked to COVID-19

A fourth Nederland resident has died as a result of COVID-19, health officials announced just before noon Friday.

The City of Port Arthur and Jefferson County Health Departments confirmed the news, saying the victim was a white female between 80 and 85 years old.

Health officials said it has been determined the individual had underlying health conditions.

“We join in mourning this loss of life, and encourage all citizens to please stay safe,” a statement from the Port Arthur Health Department said.

On Thursday, Port Arthur and Jefferson County health departments received confirmation of 14 additional COVID-19 cases for residents in the 77627 zip code.

This brings the total to 166 individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 in this zip code since testing began.

The City of Nederland announced Thursday the total positive COVID-19 test results increased to 135 with 12 new positive cases. City officials said Nederland’s active case count is 81.

“We ask that people follow the health guidelines prescribed by the State of Texas, specifically hand washing, social distancing and wearing a mask when out,” a city statement read.
