NEDERLAND — A third Nederland resident has died of coronavirus-related complications, health officials announced at midday Wednesday.

The news was confirmed by the City of Port Arthur and Jefferson County Health Departments, who said the individual was a white female between 65 and 70 years old.

“It has been determined that this individual had underlying health conditions,” according the Port Arthur Health Department. “We join in mourning this loss of life and encourage all citizens to please stay safe.”

A statement from the City of Nederland said, “our thoughts and prayers extend to their family and friends.”

At approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday, the City of Nederland said it received information that the number of total positive COVID-19 test results increased to 119 with 10 new positive cases.

City officials said they will update the number of active cases later Wednesday.
