K & D’s Furniture delivers great deals to PA’s West Side
Location played a big part in Kevin and Dedria Anderson’s decision to open their own furniture store.
K & D’s Furniture, located at 1717 Stilwell Blvd. in Port Arthur, is just off Gulfway Drive and less than two miles from the historic West Side of the city.
Kevin previously worked in the furniture business and really wanted to branch out and own a business. That dream came to fruition on Feb. 1, 2019, when he and his wife opened their shop.
“The location played a key role in our clientele,” Kevin said. “There’s not a lot of market for high-end items so we try to keep what customers like and can afford, but if a client wants a higher end item, we can order and expedite it. I do a lot of foot work.”
If a client sees an item they like but would prefer a different color, that can be done as well, Dedria said.
K & D’s Furniture is not a franchise and is not a rent-to-own business, though they do offer layaways and, once paid off, can be delivered.
The conversation goes back to location.
“I was born and raised in Port Arthur and have seen a lot of businesses leave Port Arthur, mainly on the west end,” Kevin said. “This is something to try and help people toward the west end.”
The city’s West Side does not have any major stores or restaurants. The Andersons could have opted to place the furniture store in the northern part of the city, but that would have meant some things would be different.
“Yes, if we were more toward Central Mall we could have a little more markup and get away with it,” he said. “We are trying to balance what the customer can afford and enough to support the business itself.”
K & D’s Furniture offers a number of home furnishings, and the most popular ones sold are beds, mattresses, TV stands, dinettes and some accent items.
The business is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed most holidays. For more information, call 409-300-4883.
